Former Alabama QB names ‘scariest game’ on Tide 2025 schedule

The South Carolina Gamecocks is team Alabama football has to watch out for, according to former Alabama quarterback, AJ McCarron.

The Tide are gearing up this season to play an SEC conference schedule with multiple road tests. One of those road tests is against South Carolina, who Alabama has sandwiched on their schedule between Tennessee, LSU and a BYE week. McCarron feels this could be the Tide’s ‘scariest game’ of the season.

“The scariest game out of all those is the following week, at South Carolina,” McCarron said on The Bama Dynasty Podcast. “Myself and Trent (Richardson) both know it is a extremely loud place to play at. South Carolina took Bama down to the wire last year, really cost themselves the game. I mean really had the game won and blew it.”

McCarron then reverted back to his experience during his collegiate career when he led Alabama into South Carolina as visitors in 2010. For McCarron, that Gamecocks team drew striking comparisons from a talent standpoint to the squad that the Tide are preparing to square off against on the road this fall.

“I remember like it was yesterday, 2010, running out of that tunnel, and I mean that place is loud,” McCarron said. “That techno music starts going and the crowd is waving white towels. I mean, they get amped up there…I really think that team that they had in 2010 for South Carolina compares to this team that they have right now. LaNorris Sellers, the young freshman defensive end, No.6 (Dylan Stewart), an absolute dog. I think possibly the best defensive end in the country. I mean they have playmakers all over so that’s going to be extremely tough.”

McCarron went on to further break down the importance of this matchup due to the reality of the Tide’s tough SEC schedule down the stretch.

“It’s just the fact that you’re playing so many tough teams in the SEC, literally five weeks in a row without a break,” McCarron said. “I mean, you’ve gotta get out of that with no injuries, guys having healthy bodies, work load during the week, that’s what makes it so tough.”

With that being said, it’ll be interesting to see just how Alabama football responds when they travel to Williams-Brice Stadium to take on South Carolina on October 25th.
