Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze enters his fourth season as head coach in 2025 with an 11-14 record.
Freeze had one year with cornerback Colton Hood before the Auburn player hit the transfer portal. Hood is now on his third team as of Friday.
On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that the former Auburn and Colorado Buffaloes cornerback had committed to the Tennessee Volunteers.
Hood spent one year each with Auburn and Colorado and was a recruit in the 2023 class.
Hood is from McDonough, Georgia, and attended Eagle's Landing Christian Academy. Fawcett reported that Hood has three years of eligibility remaining.
Hood was a former four-star prospect in the 2023 class. He was the No. 54 cornerback in the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings.
Hood played in four games as a true freshman at Auburn, recording three total tackles. After one year with the Tigers, he hit the portal and landed with Colorado.
In 2024, he played in all 13 games for the Buffaloes, setting career highs in total tackles (24), tackles for loss (1), and interceptions (2). Hood also led the Big 12 in interception return yards (102).
Colorado has once again had a mass exodus in the portal, losing 34 players. The Buffaloes had 45 enter the portal in 2024 and 55 in 2023.
Tennessee had a major transfer portal entry this offseason, losing starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava over an NIL dispute. However, quarterback Joey Aguilar flipped to Tennessee when Iamaleava committed to the UCLA Bruins.
Aguilar was committed to the Bruins since December after transferring in from Appalachian State.
Auburn is still searching for its first winning season under Freeze. The Tigers take on the Baylor Bears to open the 2025 season on Aug. 30.
