Former Bulldogs QB Aaron Murray knows exactly what he's doing ahead of Tennessee vs Georgia game and Vals fans shouldn't fall for it
Joshua L. Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK

Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray knows exactly what he's doing ahead of his alma mater’s showdown with the Tennessee Vols this Saturday.

And Vols fans absolutely should not fall for it.

Murray appeared at the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday and he suggested that Tennessee is in a "better position" to have success than Georgia.

“As an ESPN (employee), put my Georgia hat away and just call the game for what it is, I think Tennessee is in a better position right now to go out there and have success,” said Murray (via the Knoxville News Sentinel). “I think that Tennessee is more confident. I think Tennessee has a massive home field advantage.”

Tennessee Vols fans can't fall for the rat poison from Aaron Murray

Maybe what Murray said is true. We'll find out on Saturday.

What I think is clear, though, is that Murray is going to be pulling for Georgia to beat Tennessee. And he knows as well as anyone that Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart is one of the best in the sport when it comes to using outside noise to keep his team motivated.

Murray's excessive praise for the Volunteers feels like the former Georgia quarterback is falling on the sword to give his beloved Bulldogs some extra motivation.

Georgia is favored in this game. They've dominated Tennessee over the last eight years. The Vols are the clear underdogs. Despite Murray's comments -- and despite what Smart is probably telling his team this week -- no one with a half a brain is discounting the Bulldogs in this matchup.

Don't be fooled by Murray's comments. He isn't trying to compliment the Vols, he's simply trying to help give Georgia an edge.

Tennessee and Georgia are set to kick off at 3:30 PM ET on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville.
