The TCU Horned Frogs are one of the more intriguing teams in college football and had a strong season as they finished with a 9-4 record. While the team did not make the final top 25 of the College Football Playoff rankings, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the program heading into the upcoming season. With quarterback Josh Hoover expecting to take that next step in the Big 12 Conference after finishing fifth in the standings, one college football analyst is believing in the TCU Horned Frogs to make the College Football Playoff this season.

Let’s take a closer look at who is excited about the program that has not been in the College Football Playoff since making the 2022 National Championship Game in a 65-7 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Greg McElroy Believes in the 2025 TCU Horned Frogs

During the ‘Always College Football‘ podcast, former quarterback Greg McElroy mentioned how he believes that the Horned Frogs should make a leap this season to be in the College Football Playoff.

“I think TCU can make the playoff this year… Part of my reason for optimism is that you have Josh Hoover back at quarterback. He had a tremendous year last year statistically. You have great stability along the offensive line in certain spots. I think the run game will hopefully take a pretty significant step forward. That was a bit of a point of contention last year and, if that part can take some of the pressure off the passing attack, this is a group that just couldn’t really get a whole lot going last year.”

McElroy would continue to discuss how the wide receiver position will have massive changes, but the TCU Horned Frogs added talented transfers like Jordan Dwyer and Joseph Manjack. McElroy would continue to discuss how he believes the defense will also take a step up.

“They’ve got to be better on the defense. They were struggling in the secondary last year. That should be helpful (as) they attacked it in the portal some. This will be the second year now for Andy Avalos as the defensive coordinator. That should provide a little bit of continuity.”

The TCU Horned Frogs have a difficult schedule and would likely need to win the Big 12 Championship Game if they are going to make the massive leap as one of the 12 teams competing for the national championship. It will be interesting to see if the team can dominate this season and be in the conversation for the College Football Playoff.
