Former Crimson Tide Quarterback Reveals His 2024 Season Grade For Alabama

Kalen DeBoer's first season at the helm of the Alabama football program was one of incredibly high highs and extremely low lows. From a top-five victory against Georgia and a No. 1 overall ranking to unranked losses to Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Michigan, the Crimson Tide faithful went through it in 2024. 

Still, former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy had to give out a grade for DeBoer's inaugural season. 

"Overall year one grade for Kalen DeBoer: I'm giving him a B-," McElroy said." 

McElroy also noted the amount of players that exited through the transfer portal but also the success he had in his previous stops, namely at Washington. 

"Then the first year started, that was a 9-4 record," McElroy said. "I think that they were remarkably inconsistent from start to finish. It was just constantly a roller coaster, and that is something that is going to be very important for this staff to try to iron out as they continue to move forward."

McElroy did acknowledge the recency bias of the disappointing end to the season. 

"Had he won the bowl game against Michigan, I think that could've taken this grade into a different level," McElroy said. "I also think you need to look at the amount of penalties, and the level of scrutiny that this team is naturally always going to receive." 

Amidst all that, Alabama will enter 2025 expecting to make the college football playoff. Much of the defense returns with upperclassmen Deontae Lawson, LT Overton, Tim Keenan III, Jah-Marien Latham, and Domani Jackson all choosing to come back for another season instead of heading to the NFL. 

There is also continuity on the offensive side with three starting offensive linemen returning while starting skill players Germie Bernard, Ryan Williams, and Jam Miller are all back for year two of
