Few expected the type of season North Carolina freshman QB Drake Maye put together in his first year starting for the Tar Heels, but he has caught the attention of a former Heisman Trophy winner.
Former Baylor QB Robert Griffin III, the 2011 Heisman winner, tweeted his endorsement after Maye led North Carolina to a come-from-behind, 36-34 win over Wake Forest on Saturday.
Maye completed 31-of-49 pass attempts for 448 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Drake Maye should be in New York for the Heisman.

In The Athletic's Heisman Trophy straw poll, Maye landed one point behind Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Maye did not appear among the sleepers on preseason Heisman lists.
The former five-star prospect has thrown for 3,412 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 584 yards and five TDs.
