"Given the nature of the allegations and based on University police he has been placed on administrative leave. We will have no additional comment at this time," said Alberts in his statement.
Joseph served as interim coach at Nebraska following Scott Frost's September firing. In his nine games as coach, the Cornhuskers went 3-6.
Following a disappointing 2022, Nebraska hired former Baylor coach Matt Rhule and gave him an eight-year, $74 million contract.
Per a report from Omaha World-Herald's Sam McKewon on Monday, "Joseph's status with the new Husker football coaching staff remained a mystery."
Matt Rhule was asked about the possibility of retaining Joseph at his introductory news conference, saying, "I reached out to Mickey right after I got the job. I'm looking forward to talking to him at some point," per McKewon.
Per McKewon, Joseph appeared confident in his coaching future, at Nebraska or somewhere else, when asked about remaining at Nebraska on Rhule's staff.
"I've been in this thing for over 25 years. And I've got a pretty good resume. So, somebody's going to hire me," he said.
Until Wednesday, that felt like a sure thing. With Joseph's legal troubles, it doesn't appear likely that he'll remain in Nebraska's — or anyone else's — future plans.
