A former North Carolina Tar Heels is boycotting the program under Bill Belichick this season.

Marquise Williams, who played for the Tar Heels from 2011 to 2015, posted on X Thursday that he would not be attending any of the team’s games this season. While Williams did not cite a specific reason, he indicated he was hearing negative things about the program and added a broken heart emoji.

“The things I’m hearing man I would have never thought,” Williams wrote.

Williams does not specifically name Belichick, but it is hard to believe the coach is not an issue. Belichick went just 4-8 in his first season with the Tar Heels, and the program was plagued by off-field drama as well. Despite the issues, North Carolina was quick to assert that Belichick would return for a second season in charge. Evidently, that decision is not universally popular among Tar Heels alumni.

Williams was a three-year starter for the Tar Heels as he threw for 61 touchdowns over the course of his career. He went on to play professionally in the CFL and XFL.
