There may not be a more iconic play in Ohio State football history now than Jack Sawyer’s strip sack and score against Texas in the College Football Playoff.

Sawyer rumbled nearly 80 yards after the fourth-quarter sack, sealing the game for the Buckeyes and securing their spot in the National Championship.

Having grown up in the Columbus area, Sawyer now has to get used to the city of Pittsburgh. As a new member of the Steelers, it sounds like he ended up exactly where he wanted to be.

“I wanted to go somewhere that’s got good vets in the room,” Sawyer said recently on Ben Roethlisberger’s podcast. “Who better to learn from than T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith? Being in this culture and environment, it’s definitely a place where I wanted to be. Couldn’t be happier or more excited for it.”

Sawyer was a five-star recruit who steadily improved over his career in Columbus. The sack numbers didn’t come early, but he tallied 6.5 as a junior and nine as a senior. The 240-pound edge rusher was eventually drafted in the fourth round and now gets to learn from some of the best in the game.

The former Buckeye won’t be thrown into the fire right away and will serve as depth for the Steelers. It’s a great opportunity for Sawyer to gain experience early in his NFL career.

Sawyer is 100 percent Buckeye through and through, so fans will be wishing him nothing but the best in Pittsburgh. It sounds like he landed in the perfect spot — now time will tell.
