Former Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart Announces Jersey Number Change at NFL Level

The Ole Miss football program will desperately miss quarterback Jaxson Dart this season, as the record-breaking signal-caller left for the professional level. He was selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the New York Giants after they traded up to get him.

Now, he'll follow in the path of another legendary Rebel, Eli Manning, who was part of a dramatic trade on draft night that resulted in his heading to the Giants as well. Though Dart is just a few weeks into his NFL career, he has already begun making waves in the New York media.

After wearing the number 2 throughout his college career at Ole Miss, Dart will be forced to change his number for the Giants. The team announced the uniform numbers for the rookie class, and Dart will wear number 6 for the Giants this season.

It may take Rebels fans some time to get used to his number change at the NFL level, but perhaps beginning a new era with a different number is not a bad idea for the young quarterback. He'll have bigger things to worry about, however, as he battles to work his way up the depth chart behind veterans like Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.

When the final 53-man roster gets whittled down, however, Dart can change his number again if veteran Deonte Banks, who currently has the number 2, does not make the team or is moved for whatever reason. However, he should be focused more on his play and representing the name on the back of his jersey, not necessarily the number.
