A former Tennessee Vols player who left Rocky Top after the 2024 season (via the NCAA transfer portal) has reportedly switched positions at his new program.
Cam Seldon, who spent time at running back during his two seasons at Tennessee, transferred to Virginia Tech in late December.
Seldon, a former four-star recruit from Browns Store, VA, played in 19 career game for the Volunteers. The Virginia native rushed for 224 yards and one touchdown during his time at Tennessee while recording one reception.
The 6-foot-2 athlete is reportedly moving to wide receiver at Virginia Tech. And he might even see some time on defense, too, according to Hokies head coach Brent Pry.
"I've been pleasantly surprised," said Pry this week when asked about Seldon. "He catches the ball more naturally than I anticipated. He's got really good speed. He's got a great build. He's got really good work ethic. To this point, with four practices in the winter program, he's everything that I hoped he'd be."
"I even think about him on defense," continued Pry. "He looks like a bona fide safety. He's a really good looking athlete that can run, that has agility, that works. He's got a burst. He's raw in a lot of areas, but we're excited to work with him."
Pry also noted that Seldon could serve in a Deebo Samuel type role for Virginia Tech.
"I think he's got the ability to do that (a Deebo Samuel role)," said Pry. "Are we able to do that with our offense and with the personnel we have? We'll see. But based on his running back background, he's good with the ball in his hands after the catch."
For whatever reason, things just didn't work out for Seldon at Tennessee, despite the fact that he was rated as the No. 77 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class.
We'll see over the next couple of seasons if the staff at Virginia Tech is able to unlock Seldon's elite talents and help the young athlete ultimately reach his potential.
