2024 four-star defensive lineman Owen Wafle committed to Notre Dame in mid-May 2022. Just over a year later, in late May 2023, Wafle decided to de-commit from the Fighting Irish.
“After much consideration and reflection, I have decided to de-commit from Notre Dame,” he wrote on his Twitter account. “I want to express my sincere gratitude to the incredible coaching staff, the supportive fans, and the prestigious football program for their belief in me."

Decommitments are no longer surprising in today's college football landscape, but it is rare for Notre Dame to lose a recruit. As Wafle himself mentioned, the Fighting Irish have one of the best brands and football histories in the country.
"This decision was not made lightly, as Notre Dame has a rich football legacy that I truly admire," he said. "However, I believe it’s important for me to explore other opportunities and find the best fit for my personal and athletic development."
Wafle initially committed to Notre Dame over the likes of Iowa, Michigan State, Rutgers and Vanderbilt.
It's well worth noting that the four-star from Princeton, N.J., just received an offer from Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines. The Wolverines are now the trendy pick to be his next, and possibly final, commitment.
