Syracuse Orange head coach Fran Brown didn't mince words this week while discussing his team's performance against the Tennessee Vols in last weekend's season opener.
Syracuse lost 45-26 to Tennessee in Atlanta this past Saturday.
Brown joined Cuse Sports Talk to preview Syracuse’s upcoming game against the UConn Huskies and put a bow on the Tennessee loss.
During his appearance, Brown said that his team "sh-t the bed" against the Volunteers.
"You get to show everybody who you are and what you're about," said Brown when asked about the decision to play a team like Tennessee in the season-opener. "We sh-t the bed. It doesn't matter who they put on your schedule -- you got to be ready for it. The schedule's made. I want to play other teams like that every year -- I want to make sure we continue to play SEC and Big 10 schools early on."
"I don't want to play the other schools just because you're going to get a win. Because sometimes you're just putting band aids over sores that are there. I want to truly be able to fix them -- go out and know where you're weak at right away. Or maybe where you're strong at right away. So I could care less about that. But you said you were about to ask me other questions and you keep bringing up Tennessee."
It's easy to see why Brown is popular among Syracuse fans -- he's a straight shooter who delivers honest answers and never ever relies on coach speak. I think that's something all college football fans can appreciate.
And hopefully for Syracuse the program gets some fresh bed sheets after they "sh-t the bed" against the Vols.
One thing that stood out to fans during the Syracuse/Tennessee game was the amount of questionable injuries from both teams.
ESPN's Bob Wischusen and Louis Riddick call out Syracuse (and Tennessee) for "faking injuries"

Riddick: "They're trying to crack down on this kind of thing ... this one to me looked suspicious."
"If you're serious about getting this out of the game, you have to call that." pic.twitter.com/xB9JwDPWRw
Brown was asked earlier in the week about the potential "fake injuries".
“Tennessee didn’t get no flags for any fake injuries, nor did us,” said Brown. “So I felt they played good football.”
Brown was also quick to praise Tennessee for the way the Vols played against the Orange.
“I want to take my hat off to Tennessee once again,” said Brown. “They really just beat us….no other reasons, excuses, or things of that nature. I gotta get my team to be more prepared.”
Brown is as candid as it gets when it comes to college football coaches.
