Florida State continues to stay active in the NCAA Transfer Portal to provide depth across the roster. The Seminoles are in the middle of hosting multiple transfers in Tallahassee but they don't always need someone to come in for a visit to net a commitment.
On Monday morning, the program announced the addition of Miami defensive back transfer Davonte Brown to its 2024 class. Brown began his college career at UCF before transferring to the Hurricanes last offseason to play alongside his younger brother and former four-star prospect, Damari Brown. He was limited to a reserve role, playing a career-low 180 snaps in ten games while totaling ten tackles and a pass deflection.
Prior to joining Miami for the 2023 season, Brown explored the possibility of transferring to Florida State, even taking an official visit to the school alongside his brother. At the time, he noted that he felt like he fit into the defensive scheme.
"Florida State, they play a lot of man here so I feel like that definitely fits me," Brown said to NoleGameday previously. "I'm a tall and longer corner so I like to get press, play physical, get aggressive. I feel like their scheme definitely fits me."
The Seminoles will be trying to get Brown to regain the form that he was in during his time with the Knights. It could help that he'll be back alongside defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr., who coached him at American Heritage High School.
Brown played 400+ snaps during each of his three years at UCF, including 763 snaps in 2021 and 711 snaps in 2022. He appeared in 36 games, with 31 starts, totaling 86 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, 18 pass deflections, and three interceptions.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back is regarded as the No. 95 overall prospect and the No. 19 CB in the transfer rankings, giving him a four-star distinction, according to 247Sports.
Florida State adds Brown to a room that includes redshirt senior Fentrell Cypress II, redshirt senior Greedy Vance, junior Azareye'h Thomas, redshirt sophomore Earl Little Jr, sophomore Quindarrius Jones, redshirt freshman Ja'Bril Rawls, redshirt freshman Edwin Joseph, true freshman Charles Lester III, true freshman Cai Bates, true freshman Jamari Howard, and true freshman Ricky Knight III.
Brown is the seventh transfer to join the Seminoles since December. The program has also added former Georgia defensive end Marvin Jones Jr, former Oregon State/Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, former LSU wide receiver Jalen Brown, former Alabama cornerback Earl Little Jr., former Colorado State defensive tackle Grady Kelly, and former Indiana running back Jaylin Lucas over the last few weeks.
