The transfer portal has been a staple for the Florida State Seminoles during the Mike Norvell era. They've been one of the best programs when it comes to embracing and finding success in the portal, something they've done early on in the new age of college football.

Now, the Seminoles added Indiana transfer running back Jaylin Lucas through the portal in what could be another success story for a transfer player. In his newcomer interview, Lucas broke down why he chose to go to Tallahassee.

"I just thought it was the best fit for me. I also wanted to play here with my brother," Lucas said. "Florida State is the place to be."

Playing in garnet and gold for a storied program is always a big opportunity, especially as the program is coming off an ACC Championship win and near-playoff appearance. Having Ja'Khi Douglas, the brother of Lucas, was another appealing factor.

"I just love the way that he always gives me a call. I always wanted to play with my brother. That was my dream coming out of high school. Now we get to do it," Lucas said of playing with his brother.

While Lucas is a good fit for the Seminoles, as he alluded to while talking about his decision to join Florida State, head coach Mike Norvell was complimentary of the running back.

"Jaylin is one of the most explosive players in the country. He can change the game from all over the field on offense and in the return game," Norvell said. "He brings toughness and the right mindset to compete at the highest level. Whatever he might lack in size, he makes up for in playmaking ability.”

One thing Lucas brings to the Seminoles is versatility out of the backfield as a playmaker. This allows the Seminoles to use Lucas in an expanded role to allow him to make plays.

"Special teams have always been a big factor: punt return, kick-off return, getting me the ball in space. But I'm more than just a special teams guy," Lucas continued.

Versatility is exactly how Lucas described his own game, too.

"I got great speed. I got a great change of direction. But there are things I got to work on each and every day. Pass protection because I am a smaller back," Lucas said.

Building off a big season a year ago, Lucas can help the Seminoles run things back in the ACC and fight for a spot in the new 12-team playoff format.

"This year, we got the athletes to go and compete," Lucas said of the team's expectations. "Coach Norvell always teaches that you have to get one percent better each day. Just continue to get better."
