Games to Watch in Other Windows While Texas Isn’t Playing Saturday

The Longhorns are prepared to open up SEC play tomorrow against the Florida Gators in The Swamp at 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN. Texas sits right in the middle window on Saturday, meaning that there will be a plethora of games going on in the early 11 a.m. window, and more once the game finishes around 6:30 p.m.

Here are a couple of games to tune into before and after the Texas game.

No. 22 Illinois at Purdue – 11 a.m.

This Big 10 game might get overshadowed by the Wisconsin-Michigan matchup, which is where Fox Big Noon will be. The thing is, the odds of an upset are lower since the game is being played in the Big House.

As for the Illinois-Purdue game, this Boilermakers team is 2-2, with losses against USC and Notre Dame. In both of those games, they kept the score closer than what the other team may have been comfortable with.

Illinois is 4-1 with its most recent win coming over a then No. 21-ranked USC, and one big loss in the form of a 63-10 blowout suffered against No. 8 Indiana. With the way everything’s going, this game could go either way.

The Fighting Illini are a defensive team, but Purdue quarterback Ryan Brown can straight-up spin it, and he’s got some good receivers to throw to as well. If Purdue fans can show out, the odds of an upset only increase.

Honorable mentions – 11 a.m.

There aren’t many more exciting matchups going on around the college football world at 11 a.m., so here are a few games that could be worth a watch, depending on what you’re looking for.

  • Kentucky at No. 12 Georgia – If this game were being played at Kentucky, then it might be a little more interesting, but it’s not. It will be interesting to see how the Bulldogs respond after a loss at home to Alabama, but aside from that, this will likely just be another big blowout.
  • No. 14 Iowa State at Cincinnati – If you’re interested in some Big 12 football, then this is the game for you. The Cyclones are 5-0 with their most notable win coming over a ranked Kansas State team to start the season. As for the Bearcats, they’ve secured their best win over Kansas, with one loss coming to Nebraska in the season opener. Although Iowa State is ranked top 15, it hasn’t proven much. With Cincinnati being led by Brendan Sorsby at home, it’s dangerous. This could get good.

No. 3 Miami at No. 18 Florida State – 6:30 p.m.

This game may seem easy to write off based on rankings, but this is a Top 25 matchup between in-state rivals. With this game taking place at Doak-Campbell Stadium, too, this game could easily go either way.

Yes, Florida State lost to Virginia last week. But let’s not forget about the season opener victory against Alabama. Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos is dangerous once he gets going, and Miami will have to do its best to contain him.

Miami has proven itself as one of the best teams in the country, though, with wins over Notre Dame, South Florida, and Florida. The Hurricanes, led by former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, are searching for their third in-state victory.

For Miami, this is to take over the state of Florida and prove that it’s back where it belongs on a national scale. For Florida State, this is to prove that they’re still fighting and capable of a playoff run, finally.

This could easily be the best game of the day, and is one that everyone should watch.

Mississippi State at No. 6 Texas A&M – 6:30 p.m.

Again, this seems like a game that could be easy to overlook based on the rankings and teams. But think about this: Both teams have the same number of wins. The Bulldogs are currently 4-1, while the Aggies are 4-0.

Here’s the thing: you never know how Mississippi State is going to play. It could be great, it could be really poor, but they have the talent and tools to win. The Bulldogs got an early-season win over No. 12 Arizona State, and their most recent game, also their loss, came against No. 15 Tennessee when they lost by seven in overtime.

Texas A&M does get the advantage of playing at home during a blackout at night, but it is a good team. With wins over Notre Dame in South Bend and another over Auburn, A&M has proven that it is a top team in the country.

However, the Aggies have shown some defensive weaknesses, so if Mississippi State quarterback Blake Shapen and running back Fluff Bothwell get hot, then Texas A&M could be in for a long night.
