The LSU Tigers are set up for a year where they can compete for a National Championship. They may not win, or they very well could, but their roster is set up to win and compete for one.

The roster should have a much-improved defense than the one they had last season. In 2024, it felt like that was a big reason why they lost the games they did lose -- their defense just couldn't help the offense out.

They could end up having the best quarterback in the country by the time the season is over. And even better, that quarterback could end up having one of the best receiver rooms in the country, at least, that's how they feel. If you ask Nussmeier, they may be one of the fastest WR rooms we have ever seen.

LSU LB Whit Weeks and Garrett Nussmeier hype up WR room

"We had four dudes run over 23 miles per hour the other day, and that's almost unheard of. These dudes are flying," LB Whit Weeks said at SEC Media Days.

"I don't think we have a receiver that runs over a 4.4 (40-yard dash). It's all speed. It makes my job easier," Nussmeier also said at SEC Media Days.

If the linebacker is saying that about the offense, the guy who goes up against them every day, then it has to be true, right?

I'm not sure if any wide receiver room has ever had that, or if Weeks is even being accurate, or if this is just him hyping his team up like he is supposed to do. But if all of them run under a 4.40 40-yard dash, that is some serious speed Garrett Nussmeier will have to work with.

Guys like Jayden Daniels, who is currently on the Washington Commanders, and Joe Burrow, currently on the Cincinnati Bengals, didn't have Heisman seasons at LSU because of themselves. They had some help, too. For Burrow, he had Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, the two best wide receivers in the league right now. Daniels had Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers, two guys you could argue are top ten guys in the NFL at the position.

Nussmeier, in order to have a Heisman-like season, will need help from the guys catching the ball. If he has that kind of speed to work with, there is no telling how elite this offense could be, and what type of season Nussmeier could have.
