Georgia Bulldogs add one of the best tight ends in all of College Football
Jake Crandall / USA TODAY NETWORK

It is impossible to overstate the impact that Brock Bowers had on the Georgia offense throughout his three year career. Two John Mackey awards for being the best tight in college football. Over 2500 yards and 26 touchdowns in just three seasons. How could the Georgia Bulldogs ever replace him?

Enter Ben Yurosek, TE from Stanford

There were very few great tight ends in the transfer portal for the 2024 cycle. Amari Niblack had already left Alabama to join Texas. Holden Staes left Notre Dame to play for Tennessee. Even Justin Joly, a mega talented receiving tight end from UConn, joined NC State. There weren't many top options left, but one name stood out above perhaps any others in the nation: Ben Yurosek.

On Friday, February 9th Yurosek chose to take his talents to Athens, Georgia joining an already stacked Bulldogs roster.

What makes Yurosek so good? For starters, he posted back to back seasons with 40+ receptions in 2021 and 2022 operating as Stanford's de facto WR1 for much of his time there. Yurosek has sufficient blocking ability too, but what makes him a top replacement for Brock Bowers are his abilities to dominate at the catch point and win vertically down the field from the tight end position. Here he is early in the 2023 season winning downfield for Stanford.

Unfortunately, Yurosek missed significant time due injury last fall, derailing what could have been a special season. He'll likely get another shot at a special year now in 2024 with the Bulldogs as they'll need him to make plays right away.

Yurosek joins a handful of talented tight ends in Oscar Delp, Luckie Lawson, and Pearce Spurlin as Georgia likely continues running out multiple tight end sets weekly.

Time will tell if Yurosek is the perfect fit, but he was certainly the best remaining transfer talent at an incredibly important position for Georgia.
