Georgia Bulldogs fans will be excited after what Kirby Smart had to say about freshman QB Ryan Montgomery

Georgia Bulldogs fans won't get to see four-star quarterback Ryan Montegomery take center stage for another year or two, but it's reassuring to know that they have something to look forward to in the future.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart recently shared how Montegomery is adapting to learning the Bulldogs' offense.

"Yeah, mentally he gets it, he’s very into the mental side of it," Smart said. "He throws a very catchable ball, very accurate passer. A little overwhelmed at times and probably thinking too much in terms of, we get the quarterback a lot. We give a freshman quarterback a lot because it’s a lot greater than what they’re used to. But he’s handled that volume well. He does a good job processing information and taking coaching to the field, which is a good sign for a quarterback.”

Montgomery, 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, was the No. 12 overall quarterback in the class of 2025 and ranked 108th nationally, according to 247Sports composite. He was also the fifth-best recruiting prospect in the state of Ohio.

It's awesome to see Montgomery quickly catching on at the next level since he missed out on his 2024 senior season due to an ACL injury.

His junior year at Findlay High School, however, is enough to know just how elite of a playe he can be. Montgomery completed 228 of 333 pass attempts for 3,018 yards and 38 touchdowns, while breaking Ben Roethlisberger’s single-game yardage record from 2000. He added another 257 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Although not official, redshirt junior Gunner Stockton is expected to start for Georgia in 2025 with redshirt freshman Ryan Puglisi backing him up. That leaves Montgomery at No. 3 or No. 4 on the Bulldogs' depth chart.
