According to Brett McMurphy, the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida State Seminoles have locked in a neutral-site matchup for the 2028 season.
The location for the game has not yet been determined, but Atlanta is reportedly among the cities under consideration, along with Charlotte, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando, and Tampa Bay.
Florida State & Georgia will play a neutral site game in 2028, FSU AD Mike Alford said. 7 cities – Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando & Tampa – are in the running to host the game

These sorts of early-season mega showdowns between powerhouse programs have become somewhat controversial because, in the eyes of the College Football Playoff committee, they don’t seem to help teams nearly as much as they can hurt them. We’ve repeatedly seen teams punished for losing these games, while victories often don’t provide much extra benefit at the end of the season.
That said, if the playoff really is headed toward 24 teams, a lot of those arguments should disappear. If an SEC team can’t find a way into a 24-team field, they have nobody to blame but themselves.
The Bulldogs do not have a marquee non-conference opener on the schedule in 2026. But beginning in 2028, they’re lined up to face Florida State, Clemson, Clemson again, Ohio State, then Clemson in back-to-back years after that.
Kirby Smart has never been one to shy away from competition.
