Georgia flips four-star DL Nasir Johnson from Florida: 'I wanna be another one of those first-round draft picks'

At 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, Nasir Johnson is a big-time defensive lineman prospect – literally.

He's ranked as the No. 14 defensive lineman in the 2024 class as well as a Top-75 recruit, per 247Sports.

Johnson was a massive – again, literally – part of Florida's 2024 class, having committed in June of 2023, but that's a commitment that no longer holds.

The big defensive lineman has flipped his commitment from Florida to the Georgia Bulldogs and for him, it's all about what Kirby Smart's staff can do for him development-wise.

“I just feel like since UGA has the better background with producing and developing,” Johnson told On3. “I would be better off there and want to be developed to the point where I’m league ready by the time I leave college. I wanna be another one of those first-round draft picks that Georgia is producing.”

Getting defensive players ready at an NFL level is an argument Florida just can't make right now, at least in comparison to what Smart has going on in Athens.

The past two NFL Drafts alone point to UGA's ability to create NFL-ready defensive linemen. Georgia produced four first-round defensive linemen between the 2022 and 2023 drafts: Jalen Carter, No. 9 overall in 2023; Travon Walker, No. 1 overall in 2022; Jordan Davis, No. 13 overall in 2023 and Devonte Wyatt, No. 28 overall in 2023.

As far as Johnson is concerned, that's the type of future Georgia envisions for him.

"They knew what they had planned for me and what they wanted me for," he said of UGA's staff.

The addition of Johnson bolsters Smart's 2024 class, which was already ranked No. 1 in the nation. It has just gotten even better.
