The Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart are in a high-powered battle for one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Davin Davidson, out of Sarasota, Florida, has captured the attention of some of the top college football programs in the country
At 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, he is a four-star recruit, the No. 12 quarterback and the No. 132 player in the nation, per Rivals Industry Rankings. He's begun to narrow his list down, with Georgia, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Virginia Tech Hokies, Kentucky Wildcats, Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish as the seven finalists.
Set to announce his commitment decision on Thursday. Meanwhile, Georgia is still looking to add its first quarterback to the 2027 cycle. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Rivals' Chad Simmons logged an expert prediction on Tuesday for Davidson to choose Florida. With 856 all-time predictions, Simmons has been correct 86.45% of the time.
It would be a major win for the Gators, who have hosted the quarterback for three unofficial visits. Last season for Cardinal Mooney High School, Davidson threw for 2,360 yards, 23 touchdowns, six interceptions and a 126.7 quarterback rating.
Florida is also off to a decent start with its 2027 recruiting class. New head coach Jon Sumrall has already landed three commitments, ranking eighth in the SEC and 17th in the nation. Landing a top quarterback over an in-conference rival such as Georgia would send a strong message as he begins his tenure with the team.
While the Bulldogs are still alive for Davidson's commitment, they may once again be on the short end of a recruiting battle. If Simmons' prediction becomes a reality, Georgia will continue its search for a quarterback in the 2027 cycle. Smart has extended offers to other signal callers, including four-star Peter Bourque, four-star Blake Roskopf and four-star Colton Nussmeier.
