The Gophers have rotated through a plethora of uniform combinations since P.J. Fleck was hired in 2017. The program announced on Monday that they’re bringing back a fan-favorite helmet they haven’t worn since the 2023 season.

Minnesota’s golden chrome helmets were synonymous with the magical 2019 season. They continued to wear them until the 2023 season, but they’ve been sitting on the shelves for each of the last two seasons. A video posted to social media on Monday confirms that they’re returning in some capacity this fall.

“Chrome is Back 〽️,” the program captioned its X post on Monday.

Third-year quarterback Drake Lindsey has never worn the chrome helmets on gameday. The fanbase has been clamoring for the chrome to return to their helmet rotation, and Monday’s announcement is confirmation that the program was listening.

The Gophers have not yet officially announced any uniform combinations for the 2026 season. They will open the campaign on Thursday, Sep. 3, against Eastern Illinois at Huntington Bank Stadium.
