While it was surprising that it took the Detroit Lions overtime to defeat the New Orleans Saints in Week 1, there was no surprise in the performance from running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
In his first season as the true bell cow back, Gibbs carried the ball 29 times for 156 yards and two touchdowns, adding another five catches for 30 yards through the air. Detroit led 21-0 more than halfway through the third quarter, but the Lions surrendered 24 of the last 27 points scored in regulation and needed to stop a game-winning two-point conversion attempt to avoid a disastrous season-opening loss.
The 29 carries – 14 of which went for first downs – were a career-high for Gibbs. But he said after the win the workload doesn’t concern him.
“I feel fine. I could have taken 40 today,” he said after the narrow win.
If the Detroit defense is going to struggle like it did in the second half of Week 1 going forward, the Lions may need Gibbs to get 40 touches at some point this season.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Gibbs' Week 1 effort was the third 150-yard performance of his career, and he's one of 32 active players with at least one such game. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
