It was only a season ago that Carson Beck walked into Mercedes-Benz Stadium as Georgia’s quarterback to face Texas in the SEC Championship Game. Few would have predicted he’d be Miami’s starter now.
Beck tore the UCL in his throwing arm on the final play of the first half against Texas, knocking him out for the rest of the season, including the College Football Playoff quarterfinal against Notre Dame.
The 22-year-old weighed entering the NFL draft after a year that fell short of expectations. Once considered a potential No. 1 pick, he saw his interception total double from six in 2023 to 12 in 2024.
He initially declared for the draft but reversed course less than two weeks later, opting instead to return to college and transfer to the Miami Hurricanes.
Beck, a redshirt senior with one season of eligibility left, sought a fresh start to rebuild his draft stock. Miami offered that chance, along with an NIL deal reportedly worth just over $3 million.
While the football opportunity was second to none, Beck also had a personal connection — his ex-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder, who played two seasons for Miami’s basketball team and built a large social media following. The two, however, ended their relationship in March.
It turns out Beck is happy with his move to Miami, calling it "one of the better decisions" he's made.
"This is my future, and I think this is one of the better decisions I've made," Beck said. "And since I've been here in January, developing the relationships and building the chemistry between me, the wide receivers, the running backs, the tight ends, the O-line, and just trying to develop those relationships and that camaraderie, it's just reinforced my decision in a positive way."
