How many quarters are in college football?

Major differences exist in how football is played at the high school, college and pro levels. A common trait at all levels, however, is that games are split into four quarters.

How long are quarters in college football?

In college and the NFL, games are divided into four 15-minute quarters. In high school, games are divided into four 12-minute quarters. Games last longer than official game time, of course, because of breaks between plays and other factors.

When the score is tied at the end of regulation in college and the NFL, overtime is played. The rules differ in college and the NFL. Games at the high school, college and NFL levels include halftime breaks of varying lengths.

How does the official college football game clock work?

After every first down in college football, the game clock stops, a major reason why college games are significantly longer the NFL games.
