How solid showing at Senior Bowl raised Spencer Rattler's draft stock

Spencer Rattler might be climbing some draft boards following an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl in Alabama.

During the game on Saturday, the South Carolina quarterback only played on two series, but he completed 4-of-4 passes for 65 yards and one TD, earning MVP honors.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic noted that Rattler "could make the greatest jump during the draft process." A solid performance at the Senior Bowl certainly helps his stock.

Rattler had an up-and-down college career. In 2021, Oklahoma benched him in favor of Caleb Williams. Then, he transferred to South Carolina in 2022, where he flashed potential but was inconsistent. The 23-year-old completed 67.5% of his passes for 37 TDs and 20 interceptions in two seasons with the Gamecocks.

Even though he's not one of the top QB prospects in the 2024 class, some scouts like his upside. Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy recently claimed multiple teams believe Rattler is a potential "starter" on Pro Football Focus' NFL podcast.

Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette tabbed Rattler as one QB whom the Steelers could target on Day 2 or Day 3 of the Draft.

Starting QB Kenny Pickett didn't prove he was the answer in his second season, completing 62% of his passes for six TDs, four picks and a below-average 38.2 QBR in 12 games.

Mason Rudolph led the team to the playoffs, but he will become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Fittipaldo added the Steelers are expected to release Mitchell Trubisky.

Rolling the dice on Rattler would be a good move for the Steelers. He gives the QB room depth, and if he develops into a viable starter, this helps them solve their offensive woes.

This past season, Pittsburgh finished 28th in the league in points scored (17.8) and 25th in passing yards (187.8).
