At Kyle Field on Saturday afternoon, Texas A&M defeated Auburn 16–10 in a defensive contest to record its first conference victory of the year. For the first time since 2016, the Maroon & White is 4-0 to begin the season with the win. But Auburn is at 3-2, which is their second straight defeat following Oklahoma. Where did the Tigers go wrong? The Aggies held Auburn to 176 yards of total offense while recording 5 sacks and seven TFLs on defense. Le’Veon Moss, Texas A&M’s senior RB, punched in the team’s lone TD and amassed 139 yards on 21 rush attempts. But Auburn’s offensive play fell short of that level.
On third downs, HC Hugh Freeze said, “I sound like a broken record. It’s not acceptable,” according to a tweet from Auburn insider Justin Hokanson. And the reason? Auburn lost at Texas A&M and Oklahoma, going 3-for-27 on 3rd down. However, Freeze stated, “that’s not on the kids,” in reference to the offense’s extremely subpar performance. According to Hugh Freeze, “Our kids are playing too hard.” Despite offensive struggles, “Our defense played their tails off and well enough to win the game,” added Freeze. That’s why Feeze referred to the Texas A&M loss as “unacceptable”, saying, “It was unacceptable the way we played.”
Hugh Freeze: “Our kids are playing too hard. Offensively, that was unacceptable. Our defense played their tails off and well enough to win the game. … It was unacceptable the way we played.”
