In a battle between two of the most historic franchises in Major League Baseball, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox trotted out two rookies as starting pitchers for a decisive Game 3.
Connolly Early put in a decent shift for the Red Sox considering the circumstances, striking out six Yankees but allowing three runs and not getting out of the fourth inning thanks in part to shoddy defense.
For the Yankees, Massachusetts native Cam Schlittler was historic. In his 15th-career start, Schlittler threw eight innings of shutout baseball, punching out 12 Red Sox and walking none against his childhood team.
“I woke up and I was locked in,” Schlittler said when asked about his poise on the mound.
“I knew exactly what I needed to do, especially against my hometown team.”
Which brings us to today’s quiz. 26 MLB pitchers had at least 10 strikeouts in their postseason debut. How many of them can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
