The number one overall recruit in the 2026 class, Jackson Cantwell, is five days away from announcing his commitment. Last month, the five-star plus recruit announced that he has narrowed his final four teams down to Miami, Georgia, Oregon, and Ohio State.

Miami is reportedly heavily pursuing Cantwell, reportedly offering the Missouri native roughly $2 million for his first season, according to On3 Sports. Miami’s offer is the most lucrative deal currently on the table, although Oregon and Georgia may surpass Miami’s offer before Cantwell’s decision date.

Cantwell’s decision could sway the balance of power in the 2026 class, a factor Miami clearly understands and aims to leverage.

Cantwell would be a groundbreaking addition to a Miami class currently ranked 16th in the nation by 247Sports.

If he signs with the Hurricanes, Cantwell will be following in the footsteps of a series of gifted offensive linemen, including former Hurricanes left tackle Jalen Rivers, who was selected in the fifth round by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2025 NFL Draft. Additionally, current right tackle Francis Mauigoa is projected to exceed Rivers' draft position in 2026, garnering significant first-round buzz from media members.

Cantwell would also be under the mentorship of Miami head coach Mario Cristobal, who has a proven track record of developing NFL offensive linemen, including talents like Penei Sewell and Cam Robinson.

Cantwell certainly has the talent to build on their legacy, with a frame and athletic profile consistent with most first-round talents along the offensive line. Cantwell isn’t just a ball of clay, either; with advanced, powerful hands at the point of attack and high-level footwork.

Despite their history and generous offer, Miami is not in the driver’s seat in the race to sign the top recruit. Sources told On3 that Cantwell will take an unofficial visit to Georgia this weekend, where he will likely be met by recent five-star quarterback commit Jared Curtis.

Miami's advantage over Georgia lies in its bankroll, as Georgia’s star-studded 2026 class has reportedly signed below-market deals. Although the Bulldogs have the advantage of a proven NFL development path, with 20 first-round selections in the Kirby Smart era, Miami is beginning to make its own mark. Edge rusher Reuben Bain and tackle Francis Mauigoa are currently projected as first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, with others potentially joining that group next season.

Cantwell’s commitment decision remains up in the air, but if Miami’s final push can bring him to Coral Gables, it would signify a major shift in Miami’s momentum heading into the 2026 cycle.
