'I haven't been to a Tennessee game' - New starting QB Joey Aguilar is looking forward to experiencing a specific Vols tradition
Caitie McMekin/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

When Joey Aguilar takes the field as the starting quarterback for the Tennessee Vols on September 6 in Knoxville, it'll be his first time experiencing a game at Neyland Stadium (UT opens the season on August 30 in Atlanta against Syracuse).

Aguilar, who was named the Vols' starting quarterback earlier this week, is from California and he wasn't a highly touted high school recruit who made the rounds on official visits.

The former Appalachian State quarterback spoke with reporters on Wednesday and h e seemed particularly excited to experience an iconic Tennessee tradition.

"I'm excited," said Aguilar when asked if he's eager for the season to start. "I'm especially excited to run out that T, though. I haven't been to a Tennessee game in my life, so that's one thing I can check off the list."

I'm sure Aguilar will have some butterflies when takes the field in front of 101,915 fans. But Aguilar is an elite competitor and I'm sure those butterflies will quickly dissipate as he settles into "game mode".

Aguilar's first Vols home game, against East Tennessee State, will kick off at 3:30 PM ET.
