Heading into the 2025 college football season, Texas quarterback Arch Manning is expected to be one of the nation’s best at his position. While he has some unreasonable expectations for his play as a first-year starter, that natural attention is going to come when you are the nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning.
Make no mistake about it, however, the younger Manning is also extremely talented. At 6-4 and 220 pounds, the Louisiana native is a very talented passer with tremendous athleticism as well. The overall talent does validate a lot of the hype.
Manning has been a media darling for a very long time now, doubling as an SEO darling. It appears that other players are also taking notice. That includes LSU starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, an SEC rival.
During an interview with ESports Insider this week, Nussmeier spoke about his experience at the Manning Passing Academy this offseason, his relationship with Arch, and improvements in his own personal game. He spoke very highly of Manning and all he can accomplish this season with the Longhorns.
"Obviously we're both high-level competitors," Nussmeier said in the article. "We both play for two schools that have the same goal. We know and both plan to compete for the same goal.
“I'm definitely rooting for Arch. I think he's a really good player. I love his swagger. I love his confidence, and I'm very excited to see his first season start, and I think he's going to tear it up."
Nussmeier is also expected to be one of the better quarterbacks not only in the SEC in 2025, but in the entire country. He is coming off of a season where Nussmeier managed to throw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns. If he can cut down on the turnovers (12 interceptions, 3 lost fumbles), then the Tigers have a chance to have a huge year this season.
While it doesn’t seem wise to put stock into a player who has thrown less than 100 passes in his career so far, Manning is in a tremendous situation to be successful. With Longhorn head coach Steve Sarkisian calling the offense, things should be easy for Manning. If he can become early in the season, good luck to Texas’ opponents each week when his natural girls takeover.
LSU and Texas are not scheduled to play in the regular season this fall. They are, however, two of the biggest front runners to compete in the SEC championship. Don’t be shocked if that happens, and they are considered the next two quarterbacks in the conference when they do.
