It was expected to be the biggest Notre Dame recruiting weekend of the year, and it did not disappoint. Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish staff put together a remarkable three-day official visit, and they are now in line to continue adding to a tremendous 2026 recruiting class. That could happen very, very soon.
Following the visit, On3 vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong wrote about the Notre Dame official visit. He interviewed Matthews (N.C.) Weddington linebacker Thomas Davis Jr., who has been committed to the Irish for some time now. Davis did not shy away from the program continuing its momentum on the trail.
“I think we definitely will see a few commitments here soon,” Davis told Wiltfong.
I can verify that I also expect Notre Dame add some commitments here soon, and several. Of the players I feel best about right now that were on campus, I think the Irish lead considerably for the following players: tight ends Preston Fryzel and Evan Jacobson, wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald, cornerback Khary Adams, and safety Nick Reddish. It’s an impressive list.
Of the remaining players on campus, I also believe that the Fighting Irish have a slight lead for athelete Joey O’Brien and wide receiver Kaydon Finley, but I have some hesitation in fully predicting them to be in the 2026 class, although that could change soon. Offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh is probably the priority target that I feel least confident about right now.
The next couple of weeks will give us a much deeper understanding for what this 2026 group will ultimately look like for Notre Dame. Regardless of how it shakes out, the recruiting momentum is set to continue. Davis’ comments should have Irish fans out there very excited.
It should also bring extra excitement coming from Davis, who has been a part of decommitment talk in recent weeks after he took an official visit to Georgia earlier this month. With his father being a former Bulldog star, Davis heading down to Athens was unsettling. Many speculated that situation could end poorly.
While it’s not a definite that Davis does sign in December, his comments are very positive in him doing so. He has been a nice recruiter for the class behind the scenes, and that was true this weekend. The 2026 recruiting class has a chance to be the best under Coach Freeman.
