Carlos Alcaraz reacts to Jannik Sinner’s shocking confession

It's been nearly two weeks since Carlos Alcaraz saved three match points before stunning Jannik Sinner in the final of the French Open.

The Italian has admittedly yet to recover from the agony of that defeat. After his loss to Alexander Bublik at Halle this week, he made a shocking confession that sent shockwaves through the tennis world.

"The truth is that after the defeat in Paris, it hasn't been easy to compete here [in Halle]. I am relatively satisfied to have been able to play two matches on grass before Wimbledon," Sinner said.

The loss to World No. 45 Bublik marked Sinner's worst loss — by ranking — in nearly two years and his first loss to a non-Alcaraz player since August 2024. It was rather shocking of the 23-year-old to admit that the Alcaraz loss was still weighing on him, impacting him mentally.

Alcaraz was asked about Sinner's remarks after he reached the semifinals at Queen's Club on Friday. The Spaniard acknowledged that it took him at least three or four days to recover from similar losses in the past, empathizing with his rival for experiencing such heartbreak.

"I know that day for him, that final was pretty tough to deal with after all mentally," Alcaraz said, via Tennis Letter. "From my experience, some matches that I have lost, I took three, four days just to recover mentally. Physically, as well, if it was demanding physically. So two or three days minimum just to recover from a really tough loss."

The Spaniard is on a 15-match winning streak after his latest victory over France's Arthur Rinderknech at Queen's Club. He seems primed to ride the momentum to a third consecutive Wimbledon title. Alcaraz is trying to become just the fourth player in the Open Era to three-peat at the grass-court major, joining Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. The win would give the 22-year-old his sixth career major title, making him the youngest player in history to win as many Grand Slams at such a tender age.
