Considering this a College Football Playoff elimination game.
If 10-2 at least gets you in the discussion, then the loser of this is effectively out with a third loss.
Washington couldn’t handle Ohio State or Michigan, but with Wisconsin, Purdue, and UCLA up next, there’s a great chance to go on a run to get in range for ten wins if it wins this. Oregon comes to Seattle to close the regular season.
Illinois had two weeks off after its loss to Ohio State, but if it wins, it’s in great shape with three of the last four games at home around a road date at Wisconsin.

Can the Illini stop the run?
Washington is a hard-nosed team with balance, with both parts feeding off each other to keep things moving. Illinois has to make Washington push a little bit by throwing early on and setting a fast pace.
Luke Altmyer and the Illini offense continue to bomb away, taking over games with the deep shots. Illinois is 5-0 when it averages 7.5 yards or more per pass, and Washington gave up that many or more in the two losses, and got hit a bit by the Rutgers passing game.
But again, this is about the Illini being able to hold up against the Washington ground game. The Huskies couldn’t get going against Ohio State and Michigan, Illinois only allowed more than 3.7 yards per carry twice, and …
Illinois won’t be able to stop Washington on third downs.
The Illini hold up relatively well against the run - the blowout loss to Indiana was one time they didn’t - but there aren’t enough big defensive plays.
The pass rush is just okay, the pressure behind the line is hit-or-miss, and that balanced Washington offense should be able to keep the chains moving.
Washington is among the best teams in the country in third down offense, Illinois is among the worst teams in the country in third down defense, and …
This should be terrific.
These are two teams punching at the right weight.
Illinois has the experience and playmaking ability on offense to not be fazed by the environment, but the Huskies will be more efficient. The balance will control the tempo on one side, and. the Illini’s inability to keep defenses from getting behind the line will be a problem on the other.
It’ll come down to a slew of big field goal opportunities late, and after a big early miss, Washington’s Grady Gross will nail the game-winner in the final moments.
