The Texas Tech Red Raiders were fresh off a 52-15 regular season-ending win over West Virginia when news broke they were losing the highest-rated player ever to commit to the team to the transfer portal.
Five-star wideout Micah Hudson was part of the Red Raiders' 2024 recruiting class and a high school All-American and hit the transfer portal on Dec. 9 before committing to the Texas A&M Aggies.
He seemingly had nothing but problems since arriving on campus in January as an early enrollee.
The Temple, Texas, native missed most of the offseason program while he recovered from a knee injury, which denied him time to climb up the depth chart in a crowded receiver room.
Hudson found himself behind the efficient Caleb Douglas, who finished the regular season second on the team with 55 catches and 762 yards and tied for the team lead with six touchdowns.
There was simply no room for Hudson on the field in 2024 and he saw limited playing time. He posted just eight catches and 123 yards with no touchdowns.
Earlier this month, reports broke that Hudson was taking a leave of absence from the Aggies program. Spring ball is less than two months out so one or both parties will have to make a decision soon on Hudson's future with the sport and the program.
On Wednesday, Red Raiders insider Chris Level indicated he would not "rule out" Hudson's return to Lubbock and the Red Raiders program.
Reports also broke on X from numerous people close to the program that the two parties might be reuniting.
That would be good news for Behren Morton and the Red Raiders, and potentially for Hudson too. But since the transfer window is currently closed, he would have to wait until April to make an official move back to Tech.
