Jackson State-Mississippi Valley State game postponed due to COVID-19

Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders won't coach the Jackson State Tigers this weekend for his second game in charge of the program, after all.

The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils confirmed that they paused all football-related activities because of a positive COVID-19 test, contact tracing and subsequent quarantines impacting the team. As a result, Saturday's game versus Jackson State has been postponed to Sunday, March 14.

"This action follows the guidelines and protocols set by the league and its COVID-19 Advisory Committee," Mississippi Valley State added in its brief statement.

As ESPN's Harry Lyles Jr. noted, Sanders won his Jackson State debut last weekend versus NAIA program the Edward Waters Tigers 53-0. After the matchup, Sanders reported personal items of his inside the coaches' office were missing and presumed stolen. Those items were later retrieved.

Jackson State next plays the Grambling Tigers on March 6. Meanwhile, Mississippi Valley State hopes to face the Alabama A&M Bulldogs that same day.
