Jalen Milroe has put pen to paper with the Seattle Seahawks. The former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback will be paid $6.26 million over his first four seasons in the NFL, per KPRC2 Houston's Aaron Wilson.
Milroe is being given a $1.19 million signing bonus. He took to the team's social media account on Tuesday night to express his thoughts on the pact soon after.
"What's up, 12s?" Milroe said. "Jalen Milroe here. We just made it official. I'm super excited to be a Seahawk. Let's go 12s. Go Hawks."
Some wonder if Jalen Milroe can follow in the footsteps of legendary Seahawks signal-caller Russell Wilson, now with the New York Giants. Wilson was also a third-round draft pick in 2012. He beat out Seattle's free-agent passing addition, Matt Flynn, to earn the starting job as a rookie. General manager John Schneider signed Sam Darnold to a lucrative deal this offseason.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald plans on fielding Milroe at the position they drafted him at rather than as a gadget player, such as New Orleans' Taysom Hill.
"The way they used him was more in a tight end/fullback hybrid role, sometimes taking snaps," Macdonald said of Hill earlier this month. "Jalen is a quarterback through and through. He's going to be trained to play quarterback for us. When he's in there, he's going to be playing quarterback. But the athleticism is going to come to life when he's on the field. That's how he's going to help us."
If all goes to plan, Seattle will have a talent similar to Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson. If that's the case, Seahawks faithful will be as excited as Milroe.
