Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart was a record-setting player during his three-year tenure with the Rebels, and he has parlayed his successful college career into becoming a top-tier NFL Draft prospect. On Tuesday, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah predicted that Dart would be selected with pick No. 21 in his latest mock draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers and legendary head coach Mike Tomlin.
"The Steelers’ plan at quarterback is not completely clear at the moment," wrote Jeremiah. "Even if they were to land 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers, they would still need a long-term option at the position, so they take another swing here with Dart."
Dart's draft stock has been all over the place since his final college football season ended. Some projections have him selected as high as No. 3 overall, whereas others do not have him being selected until the third round. In reality, he'll likely land somewhere in the late first or early second round, and Pittsburgh is a great place for him.
The Steelers, as Jeremiah mentioned, are undecided about what to do at quarterback. Selecting Dart in the first round would give them a reason to start him right away if he is ready, but he could also benefit from sitting behind a seasoned veteran like Rodgers or Russell Wilson. Regardless, with a legendary coach like Mike Tomlin and an always-solid Pittsburgh defense, Dart could have quite a bit of success in the AFC North.
