Joel Klatt Reveals Ryan Day's 'Superpower'

Ohio State is three days removed from winning its first national title in 10 years.

After a fourth consecutive loss to Michigan, Ohio State ran the table and won four straight games in the College Football Playoff to take home this season's national title.

It took all of the heat away from head coach Ryan Day since a decent chunk of the fanbase was ready to move on from him if the Buckeyes had lost in the first round of the CFP.

Joel Klatt saw the entire run unfold before his eyes and thought Day's superpower was calling plays even though he knew he was a great offensive coach.

“We knew he was an elite offensive coach and an elite offensive play-caller. However, I'll tell you what becomes even more impressive to me is when somebody will correctly view a situation and makes an adjustment that doesn’t necessarily seem like the most obvious adjustment. His superpower was calling plays," Klatt said. "He was one of the great play-callers in college football and really in football."

Day knew the perfect moment for a deep shot late in the National Championship Game. Facing 3rd & 11, the Irish brought the house and Day schemed up freshman star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith in single-coverage for a go route.

Quarterback Will Howard delivered a heck of a ball to Smith, who caught it deep in Irish territory. It was the dagger since the Buckeyes converted on a field goal with less than a minute remaining to clinch the national title.

The Buckeyes will now go for a repeat during the 2025 season but that year will start with a bang when they open the season against the Texas Longhorns.
