When the Oregon Ducks were linked to Makhi Hughes, the top running back in the transfer portal, it became apparent that they were expecting their lead back, Jordan James, to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

James made it official. Their lead back from 2024 has announced that he's declaring, adding another wrinkle to what will be a new-look offense for Oregon heading into 2025.

James' post on Instagram is enough to make Ducks fans cry.

"To Oregon: thank you for everything. Choosing to become a Duck was the best decision I've ever made. I am deeply grateful to every member of the coaching staff, the strength and conditioning team, the trainers, and, most importantly, my teammates who have all contributed to my growth - not just as an athlete, but as a man. Words can't fully express how unforgettable my time here has been, and I will cherish every moment and memory for the rest of my life," James began.

"To the fans: you are the heart of it all. From the very beginning, your love and support have meant the world to me. There truly is no place like Autzen. It has been an honor and a privilege to play on that field every Saturday in front of the best fan base in college football."

James served as the lead back at Oregon for one year, proving to be able to handle the load of a starter. On 233 carries, James racked up 1,267 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns, averaging 90.5 rushing yards per game. He was a consistent element and a force for Oregon's offense on their way to an undefeated regular season and a Big Ten Championship.

In leaving for the NFL, he joins quarterback Dillon Gabriel, wide receivers Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden, and tight end Terrance Ferguson in departing Eugene. The 2025 Oregon offense will look very, very different.
