Witten (Argyle, TX - Liberty Christian) ranks as one of the top recruits in the 2027 recruiting cycle. He checks in as the #19 overall player, #1 linebacker, and #4 player in the state of Texas. Witten plays for his dad, who's coached at Liberty Christian since 2021 and won state titles in 2023 and 2024 with the program.
Jason spent three years with the Vols from 2000-02, totaling 68 catches for 797 yards with 7 touchdowns during his three years. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2003 draft and would go on to become one of the greatest tight ends in the NFL for over a decade and a half. Over 17 seasons, he totaled 1228 catches for 13,046 yards and 74 touchdowns, earning 11 Pro Bowl nods and 2 first-team All-Pro honors.
Witten will also visit Notre Dame on June 5, per On3. Witten holds scholarship offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, and several others in addition to Tennessee.
We'll see if Heupel can start to make inroads towards convincing Cooper to continue the Witten legacy at Neyland Stadium in a couple of years.
