Julian Lewis has words for hometown while accomplishing rare feat

Julian Lewis didn’t just graduate early—he left a legacy.

Fresh off the stage in Carrollton, Georgia, wearing his cap and gown, Lewis—one of the most highly anticipated quarterback recruits in Colorado history—sent a heartfelt message to his hometown before turning his full focus to Boulder.

“Forever grateful Trojan Nation,” Lewis posted on social media Friday, alongside a photo from his high school graduation.

The moment was more than symbolic. Lewis, who reclassified from the 2026 recruiting class to 2025, gave up his senior year of high school football to start competing for the Colorado Buffaloes’ quarterback job—a move that speaks volumes about his confidence and maturity.

Now in Boulder, he’s already in the mix for one of the most scrutinized quarterback competitions in college football. With Shedeur Sanders headed to the NFL and Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter bringing experience and accolades, the battle is set. But Lewis isn’t shying away from the spotlight.

Originally committed to USC, Lewis flipped after a late push from head coach Deion Sanders. Auburn, Georgia, and Indiana were also in the hunt, but Lewis made it clear that Colorado was where he wanted to be—because of the opportunity to make an immediate impact.

And that chance could come sooner than most expected.

At just 17 years old, Lewis has already flashed poise beyond his years during spring ball. If he can continue to pick up offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur’s scheme and showcase the accuracy and arm strength that made him a prep phenom, the Buffs may not miss a beat post-Shedeur.

The message was clear as he walked across that stage back in Georgia: Julian Lewis is done with high school, and he’s ready to lead in Boulder.
