The Ohio State Buckeyes have had to have a lot of new faces step up this season in their 4-0 start. Ohio State’s 24-6 win over the Washington Huskies gave the Buckeyes their first road win of the season in what was the first road start for a number of players. Buckeye QB Julian Sayin was one of those players getting his first career start and he performed well in a ruckus away crowd.
Sayin was a cool 22-of-28 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns against the Huskies on Saturday and tossed two touchdowns. A 17-yard touchdown to Jeremiah Smith in the second quarter got the momentum going for the Buckeyes and that’s where they took firm control of the game. Ohio State had players step up in all three phases on the road and that was a sportive takeaway from the road trip.
“It’s nice when you have three guys like that who can rotate because you have fresh legs in there,” Sayin said of Ohio State’s running back room. “The defense gets tired, those guys are fresh and they’re about to run through contact.”
The freshman controlled the backfield against Washington.

Ohio State's run game started against Texas with CJ Donaldson as the lead back with James Peoples rotating in as the second guy. Once the Buckeyes got that win out of the way, they slowly started to turn to freshman Bo Jackson as the lead back.
For a third straight game on Saturday, Jackson was the Buckeyes’ leading rusher when the game ended. The freshman from Cleveland had 80 yards on 17 runs and it was his third straight game of at least 80 rushing yards. Donaldson carried it nine times for 39 yards against Washington and Peoples had three runs. Ohio State may shrink it to using Jackson and Donaldson more as the season goes on but they have three running backs they clearly trust at this point.
With the expanded College Football Playoff format and the potential for 16 games in a season, depth has never been more important in the sport. Ohio State showed they had depth last season on their national championship run and it’ll be vital once again this season. Early signs are that the Buckeyes will have no problem with that in the backfield.
