Collin Klein hasn’t even finished unpacking in Manhattan, and he’s already hitting the trail like a man on a mission. The new Kansas State head coach has officially jumped into the mix for one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 class, and it’s not just a courtesy offer either. Carson White, a dual-threat signal-caller out of Iowa Colony, Texas, dropped his final eight schools this week, and Kansas State made the cut.

That list also includes Houston, Baylor, UCF, Utah, Auburn, Kentucky, and Virginia Tech. Some real names in there, and Klein’s already got the Wildcats standing toe-to-toe with them. That tells you exactly how serious he’s taking this job from the jump.

White isn’t just a nice early offer to get on the board. He’s one of the better quarterback prospects in the class, and while 2027 feels like a long way off, landing a kid like that sets the tone. The 6-foot-1 playmaker currently checks in as the No. 362 player in the country, the 20th-ranked quarterback in his class, and the 45th-ranked player in the state of Texas.

For Klein, this is about showing recruits and fans that there’s no time to waste. The Chris Klieman era may have just ended, but Klein isn’t coasting on nostalgia or easing into the gig. He’s already laying the groundwork for what Kansas State football is going to look like moving forward.

And for Kansas State fans? This is what you want to see. The new guy is putting his stamp on things early, chasing high-upside talent, and not backing down from a fight with SEC and Power Four schools. Carson White is still a ways away from signing anything, but getting in the final eight right now shows Kansas State isn’t just hanging around; they’re in it.

No one’s crowning anyone off a cutdown list, but this is a significant development. And for a program navigating a coaching change, every sign of life counts. Klein’s not wasting time, and if he can keep stacking efforts like this, it won’t take long before the recruiting wins start to follow.
