After putting themselves under a self-imposed postseason ban due to the NCAA's investigation of recruiting violations under former head coach Herm Edwards, the Arizona State Sun Devils football team will not have the opportunity to play in a bowl game this season.
First-year head coach Kenny Dillingham had this to say at a recent press conference when asked about the ban "The seniors deserve the right to go into every football game and try to win. It's whatever we can do to win football games for our seniors to make this season worth it and to make this season something they remember for the rest of their lives."
But even without that opportunity, they will still be coming out looking to ruin as many seasons as they can and continue to improve as student-athletes.
Here are a few of the offensive threats you should know of when the 2023-24 Sun Devils take the field for the first time Thursday night at home versus the Southern Utah Thunderbirds.
Elijhah Badger, Redshirt Junior, wide receiver: A redshirt in 2020, Badger played sparingly in 2021 but finally had his breakout year in 2022. In 12 games he had 70 receptions for 866 yards including seven touchdowns.
Excelling at making defenders miss, Badger is an explosive athlete with good size at 6-foot-2 who is primed to have a big year in 2023. Badger is an NFL-caliber talent, who could add his name to the list of recent draft picks out of Arizona State including rising San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
Love me some of #ASU's Elijhah Badger

A physical 6-2, 190 pounds - bounces off defenders and rumbles for extra yards. Versatile YAC threat who forced the most missed tackles in Pac-12 (2nd in P5) by a WR in 2022 #Devy https://t.co/JqZ0oyRDe4 pic.twitter.com/Y1k6iz6Dsj
He will miss the first half of Thursday's season opener, stemming from a personal foul penalty he received in last year's finale against Arizona.
Jalin Conyers, Redshirt Junior, tight end: Like Badger, tight end Jalin Conyers enjoyed a breakout season in 2022. With 38 receptions for 422 yards and five touchdowns including a six-catch, 108-yard game with three touchdowns against the Colorado Buffaloes.
Another Sun Devil who should be on the radar of NFL teams, he has the ball skills of a wide receiver in a 6-foot-4, 270-pound body. He will be heavily involved in the Sun Devils offense and figures to be a security blanket for true freshman quarterback Jaden Rashada.

Look for Conyers to put up big numbers in 2023.
Cam Skattebo, Junior, running back: Incoming transfer from Sacramento State, junior running back Cam Skattebo was the 2022 Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year after helping his team go 11-0 in the FCS regular season.
Rushing for 1,372 yards on 195 attempts he averaged seven yards a carry with seven touchdowns. His versatility he is lauded for was shown by adding 31 receptions for 371 yards and three touchdowns in the passing game.

Expected to receive a bulk of the carries, Skattebo will look to continue his strong play at the division one level and prove that he can handle the step up in competition.
