Scott Frost is expanding his staff in Orlando.

UCF is preparing to hire Trent Mossbrucker as the program’s new General Manager of Football Player Personnel, Acquisitions, and Roster Management, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who reported the move first.

Frost and Mossbrucker previously worked together during Frost’s first stint at UCF and later at Nebraska.

In this new role, Mossbrucker will oversee a critical layer of operations in football’s modern roster era. He’ll manage the evaluation of current and prospective players, guide negotiations with athletes and agents, handle revenue-sharing contract logistics, and help craft cap‑style strategies within NCAA and Big 12 rules. Frost has noted he values collaboration but needs additional support for front-office functions.

Mossbrucker started his career as UCF’s assistant director of football operations in 2017, working under Frost. He followed him to Nebraska, serving as director of football and recruiting administration from 2018 through 2021. Since then, he gained postseason experience working at Purdue and as Louisville’s recruiting coordinator through June 2025.

UCF enters its third Big 12 season under Scott Frost, who is returning to his post after a stint at Nebraska. After a disappointing 4–8 record in 2024, the program is aiming for a turnaround in 2025. Frost returned in December 2024 on a five-year deal, just after Gus Malzahn departed.

This addition illustrates how UCF is navigating the new frontier of revenue-sharing and NIL-era roster management. The GM will support Frost but will not replace him in personnel decisions. Frost said he intends to be involved, but needs help handling technical and legal complexities.

That level of structure and accountability may give UCF an edge in roster building. With 69 new players on the current roster and camp underway, having someone like Mossbrucker in a senior operations role could accelerate the Knights’ rebuild.
