The Ohio State Buckeyes are turning over a huge chunk of its starting lineup on both sides of the ball and several notable coaches. The challenge of repeating a title-winning season is already hard enough when everything has continuity, but it's almost impossible without experience bolstering the roster.

That won't stop Ohio State from trying or from working to climb the mountain again. Losing offensive line coach Tyler Bowen to the NFL spurred rumors of a return from famous offensive line coach and former Buckeye center LeCharles Bentley earlier this offseason. While Bentley hasn't joined the program in a full-time capacity, he has been around the team more often.

One player who has taken advantage of the opportunity to learn from the All-American center and renowned private coach is someone who helped save the Buckeyes' season in 2024. Junior Carson Hinzman played left guard and center when the team desperately needed him after Seth McLaughlin tore his Achilles.

While Hinzman's PFF grades are mediocre, Hinzman allowed only 14 pressures and one sack all season long. His impact on the run game was more obvious. There's been significant buzz around the program about Hinzman's versatility and leadership.

Now, they should be more excited about his on-field improvement. Hinzman claims Bentley's coaching has helped him "Become 10x the player I was."

He expanded on his development to the Bobby Carpenter Show, and said Ryan Day pushes his players to go work with anyone who can help them get better.

"He's like, 'If you guys have people that you think will help you go play well, go work with them. As long as we come back and play the best ball that we can, that's all that needs to be done.' For me, I think LeCharles is an awesome resource for me to go work with."

Bentley's involvement could be an even bigger win for Day and his Buckeyes. His on-field resume is impressive enough, but he's stayed involved in football as he trains top prospects and NFL players at L. Bentley O-line Performance (OLP).

The former Cleveland St. Ignatius standout started his journey under John Cooper but had his most successful season at center during Jim Tressel's inaugural year at Ohio State.

As a four-year letter winner in Columbus, Bentley delivered his finest performance in his final season, earning numerous accolades, such as a first-team All-Big Ten selection, consensus All-American honors, and the Rimington Trophy, awarded to the nation's top center.

Bentley leveraged his senior season to be selected as the 44th overall pick in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. Over his NFL career, he started in 53 games and was named to the Pro Bowl twice (in 2002 and 2005) before injuries took a toll on his career. He ultimately retired in 2009 after sitting out the 2008 season.

Here's how Bentley's "About" page reads on his website:
