Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are working hard to steal a 2026 recruit from Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols.
2026 three-star defensive lineman Darryl Rivers has been committed to the Volunteers since July 4, but the Bulldogs are trying to convince him that he should flip his commitment to Georgia.
Rivers, 6-foot-5/270 lbs from Powder Springs, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 64 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 56 player in the state of Georgia.
Rivers visited Georgia last month for the Bulldogs' game against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The visit came after Rivers had an official visit to Georgia canceled in the summer.
For now, Rivers is still committed to Tennessee, but it sounds like he's listening to what Smart and the Bulldogs have to say.
“It’s really just home,” said Rivers to On3 of his interest in Georgia. “I wouldn’t have to go too far from my family and, you know, it’s just like Tennessee, I can become a first-round pick out of there…It’s a tradition. The whole County is just football. Everywhere you turn your head is football.”
Rivers also told On3 that he needs to "pray about" what comes next in his recruitment.
It's worth noting that Rivers told 247Sports in July that Tennessee was his dream school.
"That was the one (dream school I had)," said Rivers to 247Sports. "I’m not going to lie...It was something about that orange. When I first started playing football, first started watching college football, it was just that orange — something about that orange color.”
We'll see how the recruiting battle for Rivers plays out. It certainly sounds like Georgia is giving the Tennessee commit plenty to think about.
