College football fans were shocked to see Kirk Herbstreit's son Chase commit to Michigan. Kirk is a former Ohio State quarterback who remains one of the program's biggest supporters despite his role as a television analyst and commentator.
Herbstreit hasn't been shy about showing his love for Ohio State, and was very complimentary toward head coach Ryan Day and the program during the national championship game against Notre Dame.
He put that pride for his alma mater aside to support his son, wearin g Michigan colors during Chase's introductory photoshoot with the team.
Herbstreit's other son Zak responded to the post with a GIF from "Star Wars," telling his brother "you were supposed to be the chosen one."
The Wolverines will look to bounce back after an up-and-down season in 2024, a season held back by lackluster quarterback play. Herbstreit, a former three-star recruit, is coming in and so is five-star Bryce Underwood.
Underwood was the top player in the class of 2025 and initially committed to play for Brian Kelly at LSU. After continuing to remain in touch with Michigan, and after reportedly consider ing an extremely lucrative NIL offer to flip his commitment to the Wolverines.
Michigan had the last laugh on Ohio State this season, defeating them for the fourth year in a row and extending the longest such streak in the rivalry in nearly 30 years. Ohio State may have won a national championship after Michigan did the same, but the only way for Ryan Day to truly get off the hot seat with Buckeyes fans is to finally end the losing streak against Michigan.
We'll see how the Herbstreit family manages their allegiances with Kirk staying loyal to Ohio State, and his son Chase playing on their biggest rivals in Michigan.
The Ohio State-Michigan game each season is one of the top college football events in the country and this year's edition will be no different.
The last two national champions in college will meet with more on the line than bragging rights in November, but for now it's all about Herbstreit simply showing support for his son at his new school.
